Year 6 have had a fabulous afternoon of fun in the sun, yesterday, for their Forest School session. Following an old traditional cooking method used by the Inuit people, Year 6 made their own ‘bannock’ style campfire bread twists, cooking them over the campfire
Deborah from Cancer Connections came into school last week to speak to Y6. She explained how she co-founded her charity as part of a group of agents of change who wanted to provide local support to cancer patients and their families, having been diagnosed herself with cancer aged 26.

The Y6 reading booster group have celebrated all of their hard work by having a final pizza party! We’re so proud of you all, well done for working super hard!
The Y6 maths booster group loved their pizza party to celebrate the all the extra hours of dedication and hard work they’ve put in since January. Thank you to Mambo II for the food (and freebies they added in) and well done to the whole group!
Before our half term break our lovely Y6 children enjoyed a day in Edinburgh visiting the National Museum of Scotland! They had an amazing and jam-packed day covering a HUGE range of learning and topics. Well done to our Y6 children for being ambassadors for our school when travelling!
Our Y6 maths booster group are loving ending their sessions with a game of Rummikub. Not only is this game lots of fun, but it also helps enrich our maths learning and develop our reasoning skills!
On Friday, Y6 were learning all about the pentatonic scale in music. Miss Topping was lucky enough to spend time with the class again and was super proud of the sticky knowledge we had retained from last year’s teaching.
We practised playing the pentatonic scale on the glockenspiels thinking about a range of things such as: pitch, duration of notes, following the music, jumping up octaves and how to hold our beater. We had to spin lots of plates!
This week, as part of their art topic ‘Environmental Art’, Year 6 have spent the afternoon experimenting with different techniques to create some art from recycled materials. We thought about what environmental messages we could portray around this.
Year 6 attended Jarrow Library, on Friday, to choose our own books, gather some class books for our upcoming topic and to listen to a modern take on The Three Little Pigs!📖
Mrs Whittle came into Y6 for worship last week and used an apple illustration to demonstrate how kind and unkind words can affect people on the inside. Mrs Sharrock and Y6 staff then led a follow-up activity of the positivity box, where the children all wrote positive reflections about their classmates that staff then read aloud.
