Y5 had a great time during prayer space day where they took part in many of the activities set. They were able to reflect and discuss important world issues such as as: cancer, racism and animal cruelty. We can’t wait to continue being Ozzie agents of change!
So the weather was not on our side for our Forest School session this week but Year 5 did not let that stop their fun! We brought our casting session inside as part of our art topic ‘Taotie’. We explored different casting techniques, including making our own moulds from clay and using plaster to create different shapes. Well done Year 5!
On Friday, Y5 had a fab time learning all about Children in Need. In the morning we had a visit from South Tyneside Young Carers where we learned all about their charity. In the afternoon, we shared our knowledge with our parents during our COOL afternoon!
Today Y5 were lucky enough to have our gorgeous Alice and her mam, Sarah, host a Q&A session all about diabetes.
We gained some brilliant insight, even learning that before scientists and doctors discovered how to treat diabetes people were often starved! We also completed some independent work where we researched diabetes and eventually read our class novel with Mr Hawkins called Rosie Becomes a Warrior!
This morning, Y5 completed some tricky early work thinking about how this week is Maths Week! We used trial and error to solve the problems and championed maths outside of the classroom.
Despite the rain trying to keep us at bay, Y5 had a fantastic time at The Word expanding their Computing knowledge. We were focusing on the ‘creating media’ aspect of the subject and wrote our own scripts about Santa and his mischievous acts.
The video is to come!… Year 5 staff were blown away by our mini news anchors and even had compliments about Y5’s ability to record their news footage with confidence and calmness.

Last week, St. Oswald’s were lucky enough to have a member of the RNLI to visit them and discuss water safety. This was a great rich experience for Y5, they learned lots and are now all water experts!
