Year 2 have had a great morning at Jarrow Library. We returned our books and then selected another one! We have been starting to get in the Christmas spirit and selected some books with this theme!
Year 2 have had the best morning completing some fieldwork in relation to their Geography topic ‘Let’s Explore the World’.
We travelled to Newcastle together and then separated and focused on different human features in the city. We stood outside of the library, the post office, the metro station and Fenwicks and tallied how many people went into the buildings.
We were then super lucky and had a look at the Fenwicks window… if you were on Northumberland Street and saw a bunch of us singing the 12 Days of Christmas, we had the best time!
Year 2 have had the best morning at The Hancock Museum continuing their learning about habitats!
We were lucky enough to get some explorer bags and were told by Miss Topping to go searching for the animals in their habitats before we then had some discussions about them. We displayed some fantastic vocabulary across the morning such as: prey, predator, adaptions and camouflage!
This week, during St Oz’s oracy CPD session, Mrs Smith and Mrs Sharrock set us all a challenge.
We needed to build upon our skills and trial sitting back-to-back with a partner and taking turns to describe how to draw a picture – such as a house or a monster!
Year 2 initially tried to take a sneaky peak at what their partners were drawing but then imagined they were stuck to their partner with an elastic band… this stopped us turning around and really put our skills to the test! We loved using our prepositional language and shapes to create our images!
Year 2 have had a great morning continuing with their food and nutrition week! Today’s focus was all about ‘reading recipes’. We used our knowledge of instructions to support us in reading the ingredients and method to make a delicious Eton mess!
Year 2 took their DT topic outside this week for their Forest School session! Focusing on our chopping and peeling skills, we looked at root vegetables and what we needed to do to prepare them and thought about how these could be cooked. We then used all of our prepared vegetables and cooked a winter soup around the campfire. Our favourite part was getting to taste test our soup at the end…which was so yummy!

Year 2 have been continuing their topic of ‘tennis’ in PE and focused on underarm throwing. We thought about our throws and evaluated them, thinking about whether we were throwing ‘too hard or too fast’. We then moved onto thinking about our catching and how we need to have our hands out and ready to catch the ball!
This week, Year 2 combined RHSE and English and focused on Anti-Bullying Week.
We used our oracy skills to support us during discussions around respect and bullying and then switched to focusing on our handwriting when creating informative posters all about this year’s anti-bullying theme ‘choose respect.’
Yesterday, Year 2 completed a workshop with NatWest all about how to use money. We spoke about where money comes from and how we can use it (save or spend). We then completed some activities to help us differentiate between our wants and needs!
Year 2 had a great Forest School session this afternoon. As part of our new science topic, Habitats, we explored our nature garden to see if we could identify some features of habitats. We explored living and non living things, and what makes a good habitat.
