Year 2 completed their cool task around their new PE topic, tennis. We talked about what tennis was and what rules we knew. Then we explored techniques with the ball and racket, and practised our ball control.

This morning, Y2 completed their favourite worship of the week… Picture News!
We learned all about having hopes and dreams and that sometimes we have to make sacrifices in order to achieve them.
We used our new focus on oracy to practice speaking and listening with our partners by using the knees to knees and eyes to eyes approach!
Yesterday, Year 2 learned all about our Science mover and shaker Marie Curie. We learned all about her life, why she was significant and how important her discoveries were. Did you know that she created the X-ray?!
Yesterday, St. Oswald’s were introduced to our new focus on Oracy across the year.
Mrs Smith and Mrs Sharrock taught us all about good listening and we used this in our learning back in the classroom.
We focused on speaking with our partners and what makes good listening… knees to knees and eyes to eyes. Year 2 were brilliant at their first time trialling this!
Year 2 have had the best time this morning at the library. We celebrated our love for reading by starting with Catherine the librarian who read 2 short novels to us! We then picked 1 book to bring back to class with us which we get to keep until our next visit!

Year 2 have had a fantastic day at The Laing Art Gallery!
They began by viewing all of the paintings and sculptures within the gallery and discussing them using the ‘I see… I notice… I wonder…’ concepts.
In the afternoon, we took part in a workshop where we looked at using watercolours to create our own paintings. We used the stories from the paintings to inspire our own pieces of art – were super proud of our creations!
At the end of our forest school session on Friday, Year 2 focussed on spirituality and connecting with nature. Mrs O’Doherty asked us to find a spot on our own and we all sat very still and very quiet – focussing on what we could hear. We fed back what we heard; the wind blowing, the chickens and ducks, the twigs cracking… and how it made us feel; calm, happy and good inside. We can’t wait to reflect again!
On Friday afternoon, Year 2 went out into the nature garden to complete their first forest school of the year. We collected data about tree types and collated the information into a graph with Mrs O’Doherty in line with our current geography topic ‘let’s explore the world’!
In year 2, this week, we have been flexibly partitioning numbers. We have used base 10 to partition numbers as big as 100!
