Year 2 have had a fantastic day learning all about Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth 1. We began by thinking about why Shakespeare is a mover and shaker and how his plays have impacted many people. Then, we learned about Queen Elizabeth 1 in line with our new History topic ‘Magnificent Monarchs’ and thought about how she was a significant ruler. Finally, we linked the two and determined what Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth 1 had to do with one another!

Year 2 have had a brilliant morning at South Shields Town Hall where we went for a tour and met the mayor and mayoress! We were lucky enough to be invited into the mayors offices and learned all about the Town Hall’s history. We would like to say thank you to our class governor, Councillor Porthouse for arranging this for us and joining us on our trip!
Year 2 have had a fantastic day at Laygate Mosque where they were introduced to the religion of Islam. We learned about Allah being Islam’s only God, thought about the 5 Pillars and were even shown how to pray like a Muslim.

Year 2 and Year 5 teamed up this morning and took part in Easter Prayer Space Day. Following in the footsteps of Jesus, we all completed the activities and focused on our spirituality. We thought about forgiveness, worries and facing adversity.

Year 2 have had an AMAZING day at Whitby consolidating their knowledge all about ‘coastlines’. We started our day at the Captain Cook Museum where we built upon our learning about the man himself and his voyages around the world. We even got to see some of his maps and letters! Then, we had a walk around Whitby this afternoon checking off the 199 steps, Whitby Abbey and the Captain Cook Memorial Statue!

Year 2 have had a great day at the Winter Gardens completing two workshops related to different areas of our learning. We began with a Science workshop and thought about the things a plant needs to grow. Then we potted our own plants! In the afternoon we moved onto Geography and thought about being beside the sea in the past. We looked at old photographs and artefacts and learned all about Roker and Seaburn beaches!

Year 2 have been building on their knowledge of basketball and practicing their dribbling skills. We focused on moving with the ball, keeping control and bouncing it all at the same time!

Year 2 have had the best time at Tynemouth RNLI Lifeboat Station making links to our ‘coastlines’ learning. When we arrived we were shown around the station, talked about the clothing of lifeboat volunteers and were able to view some items. After that, Miss Topping got dressed up as a crew member and we were able to soak her with a hose! Finally, we were then able to sit in one of the lifeboats and imagine what it must be like being involved in a sea rescue.

Year 2 has had the BEST day during World Book Day! We were given the book ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ and loved how it was linked to our Coastlines topic. We started off by reading and reviewing the book, then completed some dictionary work to help us define those tricky words in the story. Finally, we designed a lunch for Mr Grinling and used expanded noun phrases to describe our choices!
