This afternoon year 1 kick started our new history topic of School Days by inviting Miss Robson an ex pupil of St Oswald’s into our class. Miss Robson was amazing and showed us many pictures of the school in the past. We looked at a timeline and discussed some key events linked to our school. We then explored how our school has changed over time. 

This weeks worship theme is focusing on Peace Be With You, year 1 discussed this weeks worship and then thought how we find peace. We then created our own peace doves and wrote how we individually find peace. Doesn’t our worship display look fantastic? 

What an EGGCELLENT day year 1 have had celebrating Easter traditions!

On Friday year 1 concluded our STEM learning with a cool afternoon, our job was to test our weather instruments and to talk about their purpose with confidence. We were tasked with using our computing skills to record this. Some of us chose to create videos, make a pic collage or create a voice recording! We loved sharing our learning with our families! 🌧☀️🌬

On Friday year 1 had a fantastic morning at a Cricket Festival. We got to practice and learn new skills! It was so much fun! 

Well look at year 1s FANTASTIC weather instruments. We have made
either a rain gauge, anemometer or a wind sock. In the next few days
we will be testing and evaluating our instruments! Well done

For year 1s Science Through STEM we are focusing on the weather and our end goal will be to make instruments for a weather station. Yesterday we had a practical lesson getting hands on with different weather instruments, we had to predict what type of weather the instruments measured, what season they would be most in use and how the instruments worked. Today we have created a plan for which instruments we want to make. We are looking forward to making these tomorrow! 

Year 1 have been continuing with their art learning of Rain and
Sunrays, this week we have been exploring collagraphy which is combing different materials to create textures on a collage, we have then used paint to cover our collage and transferred them onto paper to create a print. Well done year 1 🎨🤩👏

For music this afternoon year 1 were  exploring pulse and rhythm. We located our pulse and recognised this was a steady beat. We then found the pulse in music and noticed how the pulse should not get faster or slower. We used clapping to show our understanding of the pulse in songs. We then learnt about the rhythm in nursery rhymes and understood this was the pattern of long and short sounds, we sang the songs and clapped the rhythm to match. Well done year 1
