This week, year 4 had loads of fun in science exploring states of matter more. We experimented and tested why objects can change states from solids to liquids, or liquids to gases! We learned how some processes such as evaporation and condensation take place too. We tested how things melt, due to temperature change, with some chocolate buttons…the best part of this was licking it off our hands!

This afternoon year 4 have completed some art work linked to ‘atmospheric perspective’ and how to create a foreground, middle ground and background within a landscape picture. We have tried different techniques and materials, before then applying this skill to a mountainous landscape! ![]()
Year 4 completed somegeography fieldwork, consolidating their geography learning so far this year. We completed a study looking into local transport links, visiting Jarrow bus station, Central Station and the airport. We looked at all of the different places we could travel to from each location, and interviewed people travelling to gain further insight into our transport links. Year 4 wowed the public with their conduct and exemplary manners!
Year 4 had a great time at Pizza Express, as we put our culinary skills to the test by making our own Margherita pizzas. After becoming ‘dough pros’ we can confirm that they tasted just as good as they look. Thank you Pizza Express!
Year 4 began their topic of ‘States of Matter’ today, investigating solids, liquids and gases! We first of all sorted some objects into the 3 states, before then seeing how the particles act and move. We then acted as particles and loved squishing together in a formation or roaming freely as a gas!
Some of the year 4 children really enjoyed a challenge, in maths today! We are experts at short division, so Miss Marley challenged us to find the missing numbers in a multiplication! Mr Hawkins and Miss Marley thoroughly enjoyed listening to the conversations taking place and the reasoning language used…’it has to be’ ‘it can’t be’ and even…’bro is a mathematician’

After last week’s snow stopped play, Year 4 were very excited to finally get in the pool as they started their first swimming lesson of the school year. Sharon taught us to keep our chins floating on the water with our bodies flat and arms stretched as we kicked with straight legs.
This afternoon year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed delving into their new art topic ‘Vista’.
We have learned all about landscapes, firstly finding a picture of a landscape we really liked and then we ventured outside to become view finders! We made our own view finder frames and looked for a landscape to capture a photo of
