In Science, Year 5 have been looking at Galileo Galilei’s theory of air resistance. We have designed different parachutes, changing different variables to see which parachute fell the slowest!
Year 2 have been busy in computing. We continued our learning on Computational Thinking this afternoon with programming and algorithms. We looked at giving our partner a set of directions they had to follow. We then applied this to programming Bee-Bots. We had to identify errors in the algorithms and we started to debug them. To finish off our we had a tinker with scratch junior.
This term Year 2 have been learning about Andy Warhol and printing. Linked to their topic of Monarchs, they created their own Andy Warhol inspired piece of Pop Art. Children had to think about colour, shape and repeated patterns. Children then evaluated their final piece and communicated this with parents and carers on Seesaw. We are so proud of our final pieces!
For Miles Away Monday Year 2 spent the morning focusing on Geography. First, children looked at continents and cities, identifying the capital of Australia and where it is located. Next, children discussed different human and physical features. They had to sort different landmarks into human or physical and compare landmarks between the United Kingdom and Australia. They then moved on to learning about climate and weather. Children had to identify the similarities and differences between the climate in the UK and Australia, thinking about the equator. We then linked our learning to topic and learnt about Captain James Cook and his voyage to Australia. In the afternoon we LOVED sharing our learning with out parents and carers. We created aboriginal artwork, using patterns and shapes to create artwork linked to our geography.
World Book Day 2022
. Year 2 looked amazing dressed as their favourite book characters. To start our new topic we read ‘Man on the Moon’ and wrote character descriptions and retold the story. We generated lots of new vocabulary linked to our explorers topic and our English.
On Friday Year 2 went on their first trip! We went to Temple Park to participate in the School Games Tennis Festival. We loved the different activities and practising our tennis skills.
On Tuesday afternoon Miss Robson and Mrs Wood led forest school. Year 2 were set the challenge to make a waterproof shelter to keep the dolls dry. Children had to work in groups to gather materials and build a shelter. They then tested the shelters with water. Children then recorded the results and compared the shelters.
Staff were impressed with the team work, communication and scientific vocabulary.
On Friday Year 2 enjoyed learning all about Germany. We learnt different human and physical features, with some of us comparing Berlin to London. We learnt about the Black Forest and used the outdoor space to sequence the traditional tale Little Red Riding Hood. We also loved learning about Albert Einstein and his significance in history. And finally we listened to music by a German composer and described what we could hear and the story we thought it was telling.
This morning Year 2 enjoyed the new orienteering course around school. Using our map skills and team work. We had to work in pairs to find different parts of the story The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Once we found each part we had to use our iPads and photography skills. We then used Seesaw to sequence the story.
