Year 2 have had a great time for Children in Need! We’ve had a really interesting talk from Mrs McIntosh about disability, then we have completed a Pudsey reading comprehension and finally we have drawn our own Pudsey Bear pictures! Thank you to all of our lovely parents and carers who joined us for our COOL afternoon – we hope you had fun!
Today in Reflection time Year 2 made some Christmas cards that are going to be sent to the children in The Ukraine. We talked about what Christmas is going to be like for these boys and girls and how by making these cards we can put a smile on their faces. What a lovely act of kindness Year 2!
On Thursday 10.11.22, Year 2 celebrated World Science Day by studying Louis Pasteur and his amazing achievements. We found out that he created the first ever vaccine, which was for chicken cholera. He then went on to create other vaccines for smallpox and rabies. He also discovered how to pasteurise liquids by heating them to kill bacteria. We were amazed that one man had such an impact on the world!
Year 2 are having lots of fun in maths, learning our times tables. This week we have been playing bingo to test our knowledge of our 5 times table. Mrs Wells and Miss Riley have been blown away with how well we are all doing with this and can’t wait to try it again with our 2’s and 10’s. We are very proud Year 2, keep up the fantastic learning!
As part of our Show Racism the Red Card day, Year 2 have been acknowledging our similarities and differences, as they are what make us unique. The children were particularly amazing at explaining how they can make others feel equal and included, such as inviting those who are alone to play, paying them compliments and sharing things with them. As one of our gorgeous children said, telling people they are beautiful makes them feel equal and special! Well done Year 2!
Year 2 have had a fabulous morning learning all about climate change and keeping our beaches clean. We were extremely lucky to take part in a Zoom call with the authors of The Odd Fish. We listened to the story, discussed what we should do with our rubbish after at the day the beach and then spent some time illustrating our own characters too. Great job Year 2!
Year 2 showed off their printing skills yesterday. They manipulated dough , then pressed interesting materials into it to create a printing block. The children then applied paint to the printing block, pressing it onto paper to create texture and patterns.
Year 2 are loving their History topic Movers and Shakers which is all about significant people in history. They have been developing their knowledge of chronology by creating their own digital timelines and they have also been working in groups to use diamond ranking in order to decide who they believed was the most and least significant person studied. Lots of debating went ahead and they showed fantastic team work and listening skills too! Fab job Year 2, very proud of you all 😀
Today, Year 2 learnt all about an orchestra. We discussed the different families of instruments and did an instrument sorting activity in teams. Then we did some sustained listening to “Night Ferry” by Anna Clyne and tried to identify which instruments we could hear. Finally we talked about the mood of the piece and drew sound waves to show our ideas. Well done Year 2, Mrs B was so impressed with your learning!
Year 2 has started the school council election process! On Thursday 22nd September, we were visited by our Y5 and Y6 councillors, who taught us all about what it means to be on the school council. We held a Q&A session where we explored the role of the school council. We got lots of new vocabulary from this! The next day, we spent time writing our candidate manifestos and this week we will hold an election. How exciting!
