On Friday Year 2 rounded off their Science STEM week by making videos to advertise the plant pots they made. There was a heavy focus on using our scientific vocabulary to advertise our products. Children really enjoyed the video making process and the results were super. Finally we enjoyed a lovely COOL afternoon sharing our scientific knowledge with our parents and carers.
Year 2 are loving their composition in music and this week have been looking at rhythm. To help us get to grips with this tricky concept we played a rhythm game with our partners where we had to read word phrases and work out how to clap the rhythm. Some of them were simple such as football, where we just had to clap twice but Mrs Wells really challenged us with ‘jelly on a plate’, ‘strawberry ice-cream’ and even ‘pepperoni pizza’. Every child wanted to try the hardest ones and Mrs Wells was super impressed with everyone’s attitudes and work ethic. Fab job Year 2!
Year two are having a fantastic time during Science through STEM week. Yesterday was our BUILD stage where we used our plans to make our plant pots. We followed these brilliantly and solved problems along the way. It is safe to say that these look amazing and we can’t wait to test and evaluate next!
On Thursday 9th March, Year 2 enjoyed a practical lesson on word classes. We sorted nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs into the correct category and discussed their meanings. Well done Y2 – such a tricky concept to get the hang of!
Year 2 had a brilliant time on WBD reading the text “Six Dots” about Louis Braille. Children had great fun learning to read and write braille and were fascinated by Louis Braille’s moving story. Huge thank you to our amazing parents for the amazing costumes too!
This week in PE, Year 2 were thinking about how to combine some basic cheerleading moves together to create their own routines. They had to count in beats of four and decide whether to stick with one move for four beats then change or to do different ones on each beat. Great discussions took place and they are definitely understanding the need for teamwork in order to perfect their dances. We can’t wait to continue next week and think about how we can improve them even further. Great job Year 2!
Even though yesterday’s weather might not have been very ‘Spring’ like, Year 2 still managed to observe signs of Spring from photographs Mrs Wells took in advance around our school grounds. Thanks to her forward planning , we used identification sheets to spot examples of plants that are starting to grow in our local area. We then went on to discuss the factors that have helped them start to grow in spring time and also what will happen to them over the coming seasons, depending on the weather.
This half term Year 2 have absolutely loved their Art unit “Flower Head”. Over the last few weeks we have built up our skills in modelling and using clay. We have looked at shape, form and texture and have even studied colour mixing and pattern. On Thursday 16th February we pulled all of this learning together in our gold task, where the children created their own flower sculpture out of clay. There has been a huge amount of learning in this unit and we are so impressed!
Year 2 are really getting to grips with their Multiplication and Division unit through lots of practical activities. On Thursday 16th February some of the children started to explore the meaning of multiplication and linked this to repeated addition. The children really enjoyed this activity and lots of minds were blown when they realised that multiplication is really repeated addition of the same amount. Well done Year 2 – this is such a tricky concept!
