Today, year 2 continued with their Magnificent Monarchs work on timelines. Today we looked at different historical periods and ordered monarchs and their reigns by using dates. This was a tricky concept but we really enjoyed it!

Year 2 had an amazing time at South Marine Park this morning, taking part in an Outdoor Adventurous Activities festival! They had to use a map to find clues to complete a quiz and find materials ready to build a teddy bear’s house – we ended our morning with a picnic in the park!
Yesterday, year 2 had so much fun taking part in our Summer RE debate. We asked the question, Is God’s Plan Set in stone? Mrs Wells and Mrs Wood were so impressed with how respectful the children were whilst listening and responding to each other. As well as taking part in an actual debate we also used visual hoops to think of the arguments from all angles. Brilliant work Year 2 !
Within History, Year 2 have been using some very tricky vocabulary, linked to our History topic, Magnificent Monarchs. We spent time exploring our own definitions of words such as chronology, sovereign, century and hierarchy. Although we found it a challenge we kept going and were all really motivated. Well done Year 2!
On Thursday 25th May, Year 2 enjoyed their worship which was all about Pentecost. We talked about what the Holy Spirit might be and made links to our work in RE. The children really enjoyed working in teams to order the events in the Pentecost story.
Year 2 really enjoyed meeting lots of different people and businesses during their Aspirations Day afternoon.
Year 2 have had an amazing morning learning about lots of careers during Aspirations Day. We started off thinking of questions that we could ask our visitors and then we went into the hall where we got the opportunity to find out about so many different jobs and the skills and qualities needed to do them. Back in the classroom, we then sorted lots of different occupations depending on the skills and qualities needed for them as well as deciding on what careers we might be suited to too!
Year 2 have begun their new art topic, “Portraits and Poses” this afternoon. They really enjoyed working in groups to analyse different portraits of Tudor monarchs, discussing the poses, clothing and why these monarchs would want to be portrayed in these ways.
Year 2 really enjoyed their trip to South Shields as part of their topic, Coastline. They identified and discussed physical and human features across the day. They had their picnic lunch, in the sunshine, and some play park fun before sheltering under trees to escape the sudden torrential rain! They all had a fantastic day and behaved impeccably!
