Year 2 have been using Part Whole Models and practical resources to support their Place Value learning in Maths this week.
Year 2 have had a cracking time at Newcastle Castle today! In the morning we had a tour of the castle, including the Black Gate and the Keep. We even got to climb the 99 stairs to the roof! In the afternoon we did a Castles and Courts workshop, where we made medieval food from playdoh. We were shocked to learn that in medieval times people are purple carrots. Finally we dressed up and re-enacted a banquet and someone tried to poison the king! The children really enjoyed the activities and got so much out of it. Well done Year 2.
Year 2 had an absolutely fabulous morning at their Sports Day! Thanks to all of our grown ups for coming to cheer us on!
Yesterday, Y2 have learnt about royal residences as part of our Magnificent Monarchs topic. We discussed the differences between palaces, castles and stately homes, then we explored some key royal residences across the country. Finally we looked at the significance of each residence. The children are really enjoying this topic so far!
This term, we have been exploring the concept of friendship during our Thursday morning worship sessions and we have been lucky enough to have our gorgeous Y6 friends to support us each week. Today, Y2 thought about why they deserve to have friends. They wrote their name on a piece of paper and then took turns to go around and write positive things about each member of the class, to show them why they deserve to have friends. We all found this quite a moving experience; it is a lovely feeling to receive so many positive comments from others!
Year 2 had a fabulous time on our whole school beach trip. Lots of toe dipping in the water and sandcastle building as well as tonnes of giggles, laughter and memories made. What a super day with brilliantly behaved children too! Thank you Year 2, Mrs Wood and Mrs Wells loved it!
Wowsers! What an amazing afternoon Year 2 had at our St. Oz Music Festival. We danced and sang our little hearts out! Massive thank you to all of our parents and carers for the amazing outfits and support. Hopefully this will be the first festival of many!
Today, year 2 evaluated their products and thought about what went well and what could be improved. Children were able to say if their product looked like their design and if it was fit for purpose. We can’t wait to see our parents tomorrow for COOL afternoon so they can help us with the communicate part of our STEM week!
Yesterday, year 2 enjoyed building their Gamelan xylophones. We used different joining techniques and learnt how to roll tubes from paper and cardboard. Parts of the build were tricky but the children have done so well!
