Y4 – DT – Tomb Builders – 4.7.2025

5th July 2025H Smith
Year 4 had a fabulous Forest school this week! Linked to our DT topic of Tomb Builders, we explored pulleys and levers. We were challenged to work in teams to devise our own pulley system to find an easy way to lift a bucket of water, which really put our problem solving skills to the test! After, we looked at how we could follow instructions to make our own levers, which we had lots of fun testing out!
With it being our final Forest school session of year 4, we also enjoyed some s’mores around the campfire, wowing Mrs O’Doherty with our knowledge of fire safety, and outstanding behaviour across the afternoon!

Year 4 – Mosaic Art! – 20.06.2025

20th June 2025Jade Sharrock
Yesterday, year 4 completed their final gold pieces of work in art! We created tile motifs linked to Islamic Art and brought together all of their learning around this. We had to use skills with the clay and created relief work, this means we had to make some parts 3D and some parts had to be carved out.
Wow our final pieces were brilliant and our evaluations were fantastic!

Y3/4 – PE – Athletics Festival and meeting Steve Cram – 18.6.2025

18th June 2025H Smith
Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic day at Monkton Stadium for the athletics festival today! We competed in different events across the day, including a 400m and standing long jump.
Not only that, we got to meet our schools PE mover and shaker, Steve Cram! We chatted to him about his career as an athlete and all of his achievements, including how he co-organised the Great North Run and how he still commentates and promotes athletics today.
The children were fantastic ambassadors for the school and made the staff incredibly proud with their exemplary behaviour!

Y4 – History – Mummification – 17.6.2025

18th June 2025H Smith

Year 4 had a great morning at The Great North Museum today. We attended a workshop all around Ancient Egypt and mummification. We became historians for the morning, looking at the two mummified people that are kept in the museum, completing our own investigations by looking at different evidence including X-rays of the bodies! This allowed us to draw conclusions about their life and how they had been mummified.

We then got to spend our afternoon enjoying lots of different workshops, including a budgeting workshop with NatWest, and a session with a Sunderland women’s team player!

11th June 2025Jade Sharrock

Y4 and Y5’s oracy challenge this week was to take part in a workshop led by Mrs Smith all about managing our time. Mrs Smith filled a container with rocks, gravel and water to represent all the different aspects of life we need to juggle in our lives, learning how to prioritise, plan and prepare.

The workshop helped the children to reflect on their daily lives and on how they will work towards their end-of-year oracy speeches in the coming weeks. Thank you, Mrs Smith!
