Year 1 had the best afternoon at the pantomime yesterday. We laughed, sang-long and danced with our friends, really getting into the Christmas spirit.

Year 1 have enjoyed a wonderful and very productive Christmas STEM Day. First of all, in the THINK phase they explored different examples of log slice decorations, noting shape, colour and design for inspiration. Next children created a PLAN of what they wanted to make, drawing a labelled diagram, stating the audience for their product and listing materials needed. In the BUILD phase, children selected and used materials accurately to make their product. Finally children will EVALUATE and COMMUNICATE what they have made.
Well, what an amazing time Year 1 had at our Winter Wonderland this morning. We loved making our Santa hats, decorating our gingerbread men, drinking hot chocolate and eating marshmallows as well as the fantastic snow globe bouncy castle. Thank you so much Mrs Whittle for organising it all!
Year 1 have had a gorgeous Christmassy morning with their friends in year 2. We visited the cinema in Newcastle to watch Paw Patrol’s Christmas movie and then walked along Northumberland Street to see Fenwicks Window.
Year 1 had the BEST time this morning at the KS1 Christmas festival. The children enjoyed joining in with a range of Christmas themed activities with their friends.
This morning, year 1 made Christingle’s ahead of our Church service tomorrow which we hope all our parents and carers can join us at 9am!
This afternoon, year 1 have been carrying out simple tests to understand why we need two eyes.
Year 1 spent No Pens Day focusing on the develop section of their Human Senses Unit in science. What a fantastic day they had, developing not only their knowledge and understanding of their unit but also they got the chance to showcase and apply their oracy skills too.
They started the day looking at the functions of our senses, sorting pictures and giving justifications to their choices. They then explored the functions first hand by taking part in taste, smell and touch experiments, which helped to broaden their vocabulary.
Next they had to investigate why our senses are important and how they keep us safe.
After watching a short clip and looking at some information, they used their linguistic and physical oracy skills to make a whole class safety video.
Mrs Wells then got the children to play a game of, Would You Rather? Here they had to decide whether they would rather have their sense of sight or hearing. This turned into a brilliant debate where the children had to use their cognitive skills to make their points clearly, listen and then respond.
After lunch they looked at sensory loss and assistive tools. The children absolutely loved using the braille boards and trying out some sign language. Miss Randle’s mam even came in to talk about her hearing loss and the children confidently asked her some questions. The amazing day ended, with us showcasing our work to our parents and carers, during our Cool afternoon.

For this mornings worship, year 1 created posters for their toy sale to support #saveourchurch! More details will follow.
Yesterday was Fibonacci Day, and year 1 have been developing their understanding of how they can use the Fibonacci sequence.
As a whole class the children identified the numbers that occur in the sequence, then used their developing arithmetic skills to complete number sentences to represent these numbers.
Mrs Wells discussed with the class that Fibonacci applied the number sequence to nature, following this the children become mathematicians representing the sequence numbers as petals on flowers.
