For forest school last week, year 1 completed outdoor maths. Firstly, we went into the nature garden and collected a range of natural objects that we could measure. Unfortunately due to the weather, we had to bring our learning inside but the children demonstrated excellent enthusiasm and enjoyed a practical maths lesson. We focused on size and how natural objects could be measured in different ways.
On Friday, year 1 continued gymnastics in PE. We focused on balancing in a variety of ways and using a focus point to help us balance for 5 seconds.
Year 1 have loved their art topic of funny faces and fabulous features. The children created a collage using a variety of materials to represent features of the face on a self-portrait.
On Thursday, Year 1 learnt the story of Matthew the Tax Collector as part of our RE unit on Jesus’ Good News (Gospel). We reminded ourselves about why Christians believe God sent Jesus down to Earth and then listened to the story, before role playing the events to help us understand the message.
Today is World Religion Day, year 1 have focused on what qualities/characteristics make a Jewish world changer through the use of the Tzedkah. Following on from this we then looked at how Moses was a Jewish world changer, discussing the events of his life.
On Friday, year 1 started a new topic in PE, gymnastics. The children demonstrated their sticky knowledge from Reception by showing Mrs B and Miss Randle how they can jump, roll and balance in different ways.
This afternoon in year 1, the children have continued their topic of funny faces and fabulous features. The children cut out features to represent a human face in collage form.
Year One have had an amazing morning yesterday, at The Urban Factory, taking part in a Cheerleading Festival. They got to experience a range of activities that helped develop their balance, co-ordination and ability to follow a routine and instructions. They had lots and had lots of fun!
This afternoon, year 1 started the topic ‘digital literacy’ as part of their RSHE unit. The children focused on how they can recognise that there may be things online that can cause upset and when it is important to ask permission to do something. Finally, the children discussed who their 5 trusted adults would be.
