This morning, year 1 had a fantastic time at the Open Zone at the word. The children completed their computing topic of programming toys. The children were given the opportunity to code Beebots, bluebots, codeapillars and sphero’s. The teachers at the open zone were amazed at our computing skills. Well done year 1.
Year 1 have had a great afternoon looking at bulbs and seeds in science. They started off sorting pictures and then put their observational skills to the test, using magnifying glasses to help them draw the seeds and bulbs with lots of detail.
Year 1 had a gorgeous morning at Jarrow library. The lovely Catherine read us stories then we chose a book of our own to bring back to school to read for pleasure.

This afternoon, year 1 started a new topic in Art called Street View. The children looked at houses on St Oswald’s Road and discussed what they could see. They then sketched the different buildings.
Year one’s task was to design and build a model of a London Taxi that could move smoothly when pushed. Their design brief was to have four wheels, axles and a chassis. Wow
Great job year one
Year 1 have had an amazing rich experience this afternoon, linked to our DT topic on taxis. Nissan visited us! We got the chance to use all the rich language we have learnt during our topic and put all of our knowledge to good use. We practised using chopsticks and even learnt a new language!
This afternoon in RSHE, Year 1 looked at different types of information online and whether it was safe to post certain things without permission. The children were great at using their oracy skills to state their ideas and opinions and could justify and give their reasons why too. Their task was to work in a group to decide whether the information was ok to be shared, not ok to be shared or if it depended on different reasons. Mrs Wells loved hearing the children’s conversations and the debates going on between each group.
