Reception started their week with a bang! We have been thinking about our tricky words. We coloured our own tricky word watches and wore them. We can show everyone our watch and read the tricky word.

Reception had a fabulous time at Forest School, last week. It may have been a chilly one, but that didn’t stop us! We have a story around the camp fire, completed some mud letter writing, visited the coop, and stroked one of our school chickens, Coco!
On Monday, Reception were thinking about how we’ve grown! We had a visit from Frankie, to compare what toddlers can do and how much they depend on their adults. We then discussed how we’ve grown as a baby! We completed some fantastic independent writing!
Reception had a wonderful day at the Discovery Museum. We participated in a workshop all about museums, linked to our topic ‘Long Ago’. We started off being museum detectives, finding different artefacts around the museum.
Next, we took part in a workshop. We looked at and discussed different objects from the past and had to decide what they were made from.
After that, we completed different activities. We created our own museum, deciding which objects we wanted to have and sticking them down. We worked as a team to build puzzles of different objects from the past. We then sorted the toys into old and new and wood or metal.
We are super proud of the children’s learning and behaviour today!
Reception enjoyed their visit from Nexus yesterday morning. We listened carefully to a story about staying safe on the metro, on the platform and around the tracks. We discussed the importance of being a safe pedestrian when exploring the world around us!
In phonics, we have continued our letter recognition and reading sounds. Children identified the sounds needed for the words and started to blend. We practised our letter formation too!
Reception had a lovely visit from Rev. Katherine Long this morning for a Godly play session. We listened to the story of Ruth and linked it our ethos and values. Thank you for arranging the session Mr Richardson!
Reception got straight back into their learning after the Christmas holidays yesterday. We started our new unit in maths, Alive in 5. We focused on the number zero. Some children practiced their number formation and different representations of numbers.
To begin our new topic, Long Ago, Reception looked at our daily timetable and sequenced events on chronological order. We started to use vocabulary linked to time.
WOW! Reception have had a wonderful morning at Winter Wonderland. We absolutely loved making our Santa hats, listening to a story around the fire pit, making a jingle bell, decorating a tree, finding our magic key, having a snowball fight and meeting Santa.
Thank you to all our parents and carers for joining us this morning. And a HUGE thank you to Mrs Whittle and all of the staff for making it so magical ✨💫
