This afternoon, Reception went into their garden to explore their new provision! It was definitely a hit. We cannot wait to see how our learning progresses in our different areas of learning across the term.

Love was in the air, this week!
Reception started the Valentine’s Day celebrations early with their LOVE disco on Tuesday night. We then had a fun filled morning. Some of us made Valentine’s Day cards, apply our phonics and tricky words. We then got creative and painted tricky words and read them.
Finally we had to mend the broken hearts and match the initial sound to the pictures.
To celebrate Shrove Tuesday, reception have been completing a range of activities during planning time. We have been flipping tricky words, making and tossing pancakes in the play dough and cutting and sticking different toppings on top. Some children applied their phonics to write a shopping list.
Reception loved their visit to Jarrow library. We listened to some stories, coloured in our own bookmark and then picked our own book. We cannot wait to visit again!
To finish our learning around Chinese New Year, Reception had a Chinese buffet. We tasted different foods and discussed what we liked and didn’t like. We used our sense to help us!
Reception celebrated Chinese New Year by performing a dragon dance in PE. They used a dragon mask which was created during their art and design lesson.
To celebrate Chinese New Year and our topic, reception have been busy creating their own dragon or lion masks. We got creative using a range of resources and bright colours. We will use our masks to create our own dances!
Reception buddied up with Y6 this afternoon for story time. Children shared their favourite stories as part of Reception’s Stories and Rhymes! It was lovely seeing the children read for pleasure and share their favourite books! Thank you Y6 and Mr Richardson.
Reception started their new topic in Maths today, weight and capacity. Orange group predicted if different everyday objects would float or sink. We then tested out each object and identified if our prediction was correct. We then discussed why each item floated or sunk!
