Yesterday Reception continued looking at Animal Safari. Children programmed the Bee-Bots to direct them around the zoo. We thought about positional language linked to our Maths. Then we listened to Flight of the Bumblebee by Rimsky-Korsakov and expressed what we could hear through art. We expressed movement and sound through drawing.
This week reception are recapping the ‘ch’ digraph in phonics. For early work we practised the formation of the letters and applied them to some CVCC words.
Year 2 worked in groups to test the properties of different materials in science. They recorded their observations on a table and used their results to answer a series of questions.
Wow! What a morning reception had yesterday. Reception visited their friends at Bede Burn this morning to take part in a Discovery Zoo workshop. We were lucky enough to hold and feel different animals linked to our new topics ‘Animal Safari’ and ‘Creep, Crawl and Wriggle’. Staff were blown away with the behaviour, bravery and engagement. Thank you Bede Burn Primary School for having us!
This half term Reception’s new KRP is ‘Animal Safari’. During planning time we wasted no time starting different activities. We made animal masks, looked after pets in the dog groomer’s, talked about our favourite animals and visited our new Rainforest Café. We are really excited about our learning!
In maths Reception have started to explore 3D shapes. Today we looked at different shapes and learnt the names of the shapes. Some children looked at everyday 3D shapes. We cannot wait to explore more and develop our vocabulary further!
Today reception started their new companion topic ‘Creep, Crawl and Wriggle’. We went into our nature garden to look for different mini-beasts and insects. We thought about where they lived and used different tools to explore.
Reception had a fabulous afternoon, this afternoon, working on some music composition with Mrs Smith, linked to Jack and the Beanstalk! We composed, created and had lots of fun with the instruments! Thank you Mrs Smith!
Reception and KS1 had a visit from the school nurses this morning as part of World Oral Health Day. The children learnt the importance of brushing their teeth twice a day, foods we can eat to keep our teeth healthy and we enjoyed listening to a story about Dinosaur Douglas and the Beastly Bugs!
For World Oral Health Day, reception focussed on brushing our teeth and the importance of this. We practised brushing our teeth and discussing what is good for our teeth and which foods have lots of sugar in. We used vocabulary like ‘cavities’, ‘brushing’ and ‘teeth’. We had lots of fun with the toothbrushes and making the teeth dirty as well as clean!
