We could not be prouder of the boys and girls in reception. They have hit the ground running after half term and have all impressed us with their writing. We have been focusing on letter formation, sentence structure and independence! Well done reception!
Reception had the most amazing rich experience meeting the firefighters during Aspiration’s Day! Children had the opportunity to discuss the parts of a fire engine and heard all about the different equipment used. They even got to sit inside the engine and spray the hose!
Yesterday afternoon, Reception visited St Oswald’s church to meet with Ordinand Jonny, our class governor. He took us around the church to discuss the different features and explain why it was a place of worship and why it was special to Christians.
Our gorgeous Reception children had a lovely day getting to know Mrs B a little better! In the morning, they thought about which animal they would like the zoo to send them, based on the Dear Zoo story. Children drew a picture and wrote a caption for their favourite animal.
In the afternoon, children loved accessing our provision in a small group, including investigating the progress of our caterpillars. Mrs B loved getting to know you better Reception!
Friday was a big day for our Reception children as they had their first visit to Year 1 with Mrs B, Miss Randle and Mrs Hope. Wow, we were super impressed with all the children and we can’t wait to get to know everyone more with transition visits every Friday morning. Mrs Wells will also be spending time with Reception children as their new teacher by visits in class and on school trips!
What a fantastic (and sunny!) afternoon Reception have had in Forest School! We started looking at different animals and their habitats, and built our own shelters for them, thinking about how we would keep them warm and dry as part of our Animal Safari topic.
We then went on a bug hunt, and found soooo many creepy crawlies! We then looked to see if we could identify what we had found. Super job reception!
We have a new addition in our lovely nature garden and our reception children LOVED testing it out today. Mrs O’Doherty has been itching to get a hammock up and safe to say it was a huge hit! Watch this space for some more new additions!
In maths we have been learning about patterns and the outdoor environment. We created our own pattern inspired by the artist Andy Goldsworthy. We developed our language of shapes, patterns and repetition.
In PE yesterday, reception looked at creep, crawl and wriggle. We linked our movements to different minibeasts using the different equipment! We refined our agility, balance and coordination.
This week Reception have been looking at patterns and 3D shapes. Yesterday we used some resources to create our own repeated patterns. We explained our pattern to support our C&L. Then we had to notice errors in patterns and correct them.
