Today, Year 1 visited the church with Father David. The children prepared some very deep questions, ready for Father David to answer about God and his character. They got to explore different parts of the church, including the font. Children were well behaved and respectful throughout. Well done Year 1!
This morning Year 1 have been problem solving in Maths. The children used dominoes to recognise patterns and sequences then applied this in their learning. Mathematicians in the making.
Yesterday, Year 1 had a wonderful afternoon doing some Geography with Mrs B! First of all, we read a picture map and discussed what geographical features we could see. We talked about all of the things that a town needs to thrive.
Next, we designed and built our own town using the small world equipment. We talked about how lots of towns are built on rivers, so we added a river to it!
Finally, we drew picture maps of our town. Some of us even managed to create a key.
Amazing work Year 1!
Yesterday, Year 1 completed their Music cool task. They listened to The Wellerman song that they learnt in Reception and thought about how this was different to Rondo alla Turca by Mozart. This term we will be learning about Mozart and about how he is a mover and shaker in the world of music!

For their worship challenge this week, Year 1 thought all about how they could be like God and show their love to everyone. They drew pictures and wrote captions showing how they can demonstrate this love!
Year One had a fabulous morning yesterday when we celebrated National Fitness Day. Miss Marley spoke to us about the importance of keeping fit and being healthy before we took part in a 1 mile run, doing 9 laps of our yard.
All of the children worked super hard and really impressed us with their determination and efforts. Great job everyone!
In Year 1 the children are focusing on ‘Mix It’, and how they can create a composition using colour mixing. For the cool task the children experimented colour mixing with red, yellow and blue paint. Mr Keelan (Art lead) was very impressed with everyone’s art skills and techniques.
In Science this afternoon Year 1 have been identifying which natural materials the objects were made from. We were very impressed with the children’s sticky knowledge and using their phonics to label the objects.
