Year 5 have a fabulous day in the sunshine completing their art topic, Nature’s Art. We started the day thinking about the natural materials available to us, and the placement in our natural environment in which to create our artwork. We then looked at the properties of our chosen materials and why they may or may not work well. After creating our plan, we then spent the afternoon bringing our land art to life!

Year 5 enjoyed learning all about Islam as they visited, Al Azhar Mosque in Laygate, South Shields. We were also lucky enough to observe the ‘call to prayer’ as one of the five prayers across the day. Did you know… This was the mosque where the great, Muhammad Ali got married in?
Year 2 and Year 5 teamed up this morning and took part in Easter Prayer Space Day. Following in the footsteps of Jesus, we all completed the activities and focused on our spirituality. We thought about forgiveness, worries and facing adversity.

Y5 researched the changes to adults through the process of ageing through their science today before presenting their findings to the rest of the class. Next week, we will put this learning into a practical investigation around how age affects to reaction times. Looking forward to that lesson!

Some of our gorgeous children took part in a Para Talent Football Festival this morning! Wow, they had a jam-packed morning filled with so much football, games and shooting! They played 2 vs 2 games, matches and some dribbling and control games ⚽️ We represented St Oz so well ☺️ .
Y5 became mathematicians today just like our mover/shaker Fibonacci! We solved, explained and reasoned our way through different problems that centred around the thinking of Fibonacci as we celebrated the International Day of Mathematics. Fab work, Y5! ➕➖✖️➗

Yesterday, KS2 Lego Club had a fantastic time taking part in the Lego League Challenge Competition! We worked on our coding skills, on our motorised robot and presented our innovate project to a range of judges. It was all about creating a marine app to support marine biologists and their research! We were super lucky and won a trophy for our amazing innovative research!

As part of our character education, Year 5 explored how ‘Jesus was innovative’ using our own creativity to think outside the box and complete the following task. This is NOT Earth….

Year 5 enjoyed a trip to Jarrow library where they channeled their inner ‘zen zones’ and explored the great range of books on offer. Some of us chose topic themed books in preparation for our summer learning, all about the Ancient Greeks.
