Year 6 were studying Ordinance Survey maps of Sunderland and Durham. Our objective was to understand how maps use scale. We had to use our mathematical skills to convert the distance on the map to the distance in real life using the scale.
Year 6 have entered a Nexus Art Competition. The winning pieces will be displayed as part of a collage at Hebburn and Chichester Metro station. The theme was to illustrate what we loved most about South Tyneside!
Year 6 had a fab forest school (despite the weather!) doing some outdoor cooking this week. As part of our DT topic, we are looking at comparing shop bought bread against home made bread. We followed a recipe to complete a simple campfire bread, which we will then compare against our loaf we will be making next week.
Year 6 started their new PE topic of gymnastics yesterday. Miss Marley loved seeing the progress the children have made, since year 4 and them demonstrating their skills in their cool task!
we can’t wait for a half term of PE together!
Our Y6 children have been getting stuck into solving multi-step problems!
A group of our Y6s had a fun day at The Word taking part in a cyber security event. The children took part in three workshops: gaming security and password protection, programming and determining what is AI and what is real. They were extremely well behaved and provided some wonderful answers. Well done!
On Monday, Y6 had a great time at the Reducing Accidents at Play event. The children were given a variety of safety messages in preparation for them becoming more independent as they get older. The children were complemented by various staff members at the event about their behaviour – well done, Y6!
In our RE unit, we are learning about freedom and justice. Today, we focussed on two charities who bring freedom and justice from the work they do globally. They both help people living in poverty and follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
