On Tuesday 4th February 2020 Year 2 discussed Queen Victoria and her significance. In groups we used photographs to identify what changes occurred during her reign and then evaluated what life would be like without these. We identified what Queen Victoria was like, her appearance and her role as leader of the British Empire. Miss McKeown has been really impressed with Year 2’s enthusiasm towards their learning in History and how they continue to develop their vocabulary.
This morning Year 2 had a busy morning completing a range of maths activities to strengthen our knowledge and understanding of fractions. She was very nervous about it all and her mam is over the moon she has decided to do this for such a good cause. She has a massive heart and has decided to try and help other people who are going through a horrible time and loosing there hair due to cancer! This will be the first time she has had so much hair cut off as it’s her pride and joy.

In Year 2 our STEM challenge this week was to create a cabasa for the nature garden. We started the week looking at what a cabasa is and which family it belongs to. We completed a Kahoot quiz, which Paige scored 100%! After this we designed our own cabasa, thinking about which materials would be suitable for the outdoors and how we could create the scraping and rattling sound. Layla and Ivy were excellent at evaluating their design as they completed it. On Thursday we worked in small groups to make our instruments. Some of us found this quite tricky but we worked as a team and supported one another. We are looking forward to playing our instruments with Reception and Year 1 today!

Lee would like to share his Christmas picture which he made, after receiving this as a present from Santa at Tweddle Farm yesterday. Helping get him (and us) in the festive spirit.
On Sunday Ivy competed in her 1st gymnastics competition and got 1st place in the under 9 pairs
On Monday 9th December Year 2 went on a magical adventure to Tweddle Farm! We started our morning visiting Santa in his Grotto and we were all lucky enough to receive a present off him. We went on the slide and made a magical wish as well as a journey on the train. After visiting Santa we went and met Minnie the mouse. We got to hold and stroke her. After lunch we went and fed the animals. There were lots of animals to feed. Year 2 had a wonderful day with Reception and Year 1.
Year 2 went to the Urban Factory in Hebburn. We did tuck, star and straight jumps on the tumble tracks, practised the pyramid, learnt part of a routine and practised our gymnastics skills. We had an amazing morning and everyone impressed the teachers with their attitude and attempts at the new skills.
