Continuing with our length and perimeter topic in Maths, some of Year 4 completed an extension task to help embed what we had looked at in the lesson. We used paper straws to measure and cut exact lengths in centimetres and millimetres.

Last week, Year 4 got practical for their Maths lesson! We are finding perimeter in our new topic a little tricky, so today we used the concrete resources to support us with our learning. We made different shapes and then worked out the perimeter of each shape, looking at both regular and irregular shapes.
Last week, our worship challenge was to think about how our voices matter. Mrs Whittle came into Year 4 and spoke to us about the impact our words!
Last week, was Safer Internet Day. Year 4 spent the afternoon looking at ways to be respectful online, and how we could recognise healthy and unhealthy behaviours. We looked at different scenarios, and worked out the most appropriate way to respond.
Year 4 continued with their gymnastics topic in PE, last week. After covering rolls and balances, today we looked at jumps. We then looked at how we could incorporate all of these things into our own routines ready for our Gold task next week.
Today Year 4 had a little adventure out to the ferry. As part of our English work, we are writing a diary entry about a journey on a river…so what better inspiration than an actual trip on a boat.
We thought about what we could see and smell, how it felt to be on a boat and what we could hear. When we reached the other side, we put our Geography heads on, and used this opportunity to look at the features of a river we could spot, linked to our ‘Misty Mountain, Windy River’ topic.
We looked at the use of the river along both the North and South sides, pointed out the meanders in the river and how we could see the mouth of the river. What a great morning linked to so much of our learning!
Year 4 have enjoyed something a little different yesterday, and have loved immersing ourselves in our first ‘Time to Talk’ day! We started our day with Mrs Smith delivering a session on what oracy is. We thought about how we talk, from our posture, to our tone and pace, and the vocabulary we use. We then planned and delivered a presentation to our grown ups during COOL afternoon thinking about all we had learned across the day.

This week, Year 4 ventured to the nature garden for our Forest School session. In Maths, we have just started Length and Perimeter, so we used our time outdoors to test out our measuring skills! We completed a hunt around the nature garden to find different measuring challenges. We then had to select the correct equipment to use to measure, working out whether we were measuring length, width or perimeter. We then ordered our results from smallest to largest.
In Year 4, we have been thinking about oracy, and how we can express ourselves clearly and fluently when speaking. In English, we are looking at writing speech, so as part of today’s lesson, we devised our own dialogue between two characters, and then shared this orally with the class. We had some really imaginative and well thought out speech, well done Year 4!
