Year 4 have been really enjoying our new way of doing early work each morning when they start the day. Last week we looked at synonyms linked to English, we looked at number facts for Maths, and we looked at what Sticky Knowledge we had linked to our previous Art topic, Warp and Weft. Always a positive way to get ready for our days learning!
Year 4 started their new PE unit, Hockey. they completed a cool task and played matches, which certainly brought out their competitive side!
Year 4 have started their new Maths topic and have wowed Miss Marley and Mrs O’Doherty with their enthusiasm for fractions!!! We made our own human fraction wall to help us visualise the different fractions, and we loved exploring the different concrete resources we could use to help us!
This week we have been looking at John the Baptist in worship, and how he was an Agent if Change. Mr Richardson challenged Year 4 to read through an eBook on John the Baptist, which we did together as a whole class, discussing the book as we went through it.
Last week, Mrs O’Doherty and Miss Randle went on a pre trip visit to Low Barns. Low Barns is a working farm and this will be a rich experience trip for year 4 as part of their Misty Mountain, Winding river topic. Eleanor, Niall and Lily had a great time exploring the farm and finding out all about year 4’s visit in March!
Year 4 have loved their art topic this half term, Vista.
Linked to our geography topic Misty Mountain, Winding River, we have been looking at creating our own mountainous landscapes, and this week, we consolidated all we have learned to create our gold piece of art. We planned our sketch, thinking about our use of warm and cool colours, and how we would use these to create perspective.
Year 4 would like to introduce their ‘Book Swap’ box!
To further enhance their love of reading and their eagerness to explore new books, children are invited to bring in any books from home they have read so they can exchange them with friends!
This is entirely optional and only if children want to participate. We can’t wait for our first book swap already!
Continuing with our length and perimeter topic in Maths, some of Year 4 completed an extension task to help embed what we had looked at in the lesson. We used paper straws to measure and cut exact lengths in centimetres and millimetres.
Last week, Year 4 got practical for their Maths lesson! We are finding perimeter in our new topic a little tricky, so today we used the concrete resources to support us with our learning. We made different shapes and then worked out the perimeter of each shape, looking at both regular and irregular shapes.
