What an amazing day Year 4 have had at the Shipley Art Gallery as part of our new DT topic ‘Functional and Fancy Fabrics’. We have investigated different types of materials, we have embroidered our initials onto fabric and even designed and made our fabric! Year 4 were amazing and participated so well in the workshops across the day.
‘Once Aaron & Harry found out they weren’t going to the dentist, they were super excited! They have never been to another country before and loved the whole experience!
They had an overnight stay on the ferry to Amsterdam, then spent a few hours in the city of Amsterdam before heading back to the ferry.
While in the city, we visited Madame Tussaudes and seen lots of famous people, including all the avenger super hero’s!
Harry has especially taken a fancy to kids pina coladas!’
Year 1 really enjoyed their creative afternoon as part of their DT topic, Taxi! They started to use paint or collage to represent the chassis of a London black taxi. Some of us started to add windows, lights and other details. We are looking forward to adding our axles and wheels next week!
Yesterday was our school RE debate morning. We were very lucky to have some amazing visitors join us to discuss their views and beliefs, and to debate our big question of the morning ‘How are we here?’ After listening to our visitors, we then went back to class and had our very own debate around our big question. We used our knowledge gained from others to put forward our own thoughts and ideas, we actively listened to others views, and responded respectfully. Year 4 staff were blown away with the passionate and mature conversations between the children, and how they embraced the morning and really applied themselves to the task in hand!
Unfortunately Year 4 couldn’t go swimming yesterday, so instead, for our PE lesson, we completed an orienteering course around the school. The children worked really well together using their super map reading skills, well done Year 4!
Half term fun for Simon… ‘We went away for a few nights where we explored a super steep street in Lincoln next to the castle and cathedral, did lots of swimming, had our own hot tub, did archery and visited a farm that had 5 day old piglets. We also bottle fed lambs and watched a cow get milked. There was even an indoor cannon battle barn that everyone, including Grandad, had so much fun in!’
‘Nolan had a fantastic weekend at Wembley for the Newcastle united v Manchester United final. We travelled down early Saturday morning, when we got there we had a wander round Wembley. On Saturday night we got the tube to Trafalgar Square the atmosphere was amazing!!! added bonus he spotted the prime he had been after for ages and his Jack bought him one (which cost a small fortune)!!! Nolan’s big brother Leyton was lucky enough to have a ticket for the match we had to watch it at the pub in Kings Cross. Nolan absolutely loved the whole experience of it all even though the result didn’t go our way!’
In our inclusive multi sports club today the children enjoyed a range of activities including dribbling, target throw and relays. Miss Randle was very impressed with our up and coming super stars as they demonstrated techniques they have learnt from attending multi sports events representing St Oswalds!
Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed this mornings debate theme of ‘How are we here?’ When we got back to class we discussed all that we heard and learnt about different beliefs around the big question. After playtime we created artwork based on either God’s creation or The Big Bang. Our creations are wonderful and definitely put a smile on Miss Booth and Mrs Rutherford’s face. Well done year 1 and what a lovely start to this new half term! 🌎🎨🤩
