What a fantastic time Year 4 have had celebrating World Book Day. We started the day reading our allocated class book, The Emperor’s New Clothes. We then completed some activities linked to our book which helped to develop our oracy skills.
We split the class into a ‘Thought Tunnel’ where we thought about a dilemma in the book, and we shared and challenged each other’s opinions. We also explored non verbal ways of communicating by completing a sculpture exercise, where we took turns being the clay and being the sculptor, and we had to be moulded to recreate characters feelings and reactions in the book.
We even had a competition to design the most fancy item of clothing for the Emperor, with our winner getting a prize!
Throughout the day, to encourage reading for pleasure, we had lots of opportunities to ‘Drop Everything and Read’, where we had to stop what we were doing and grab our books!
An amazing day, filled with lots of speaking and listening opportunities and deepening our love of reading
