On Monday and Tuesday afternoon this week, year 1 have been investigating how the properties of materials define their uses.
The children were tasked to use their sticky knowledge from Reception to design and make some bunting that will improve the look of the playground, however this had to be sustainable for the weather so together the children decided this needed to be bendy to flutter in the wind and waterproof.
We then tested a range of different materials and presented these in a venn diagram of our findings. The children used this information to predict which materials would be most suitable and why using scientific vocabulary.
As a group we helped each other to make two sets of bunting with the chosen materials, 1 to hang outside and 1 to hang indoors.
After half term, the children will observe the two sets of bunting and record their findings and conclusions.
