Thanks so much to Victoria Bell for this lovely activity!
Can you make me an Adventure Stick ?
Each time you go out you could collect different objects to go onto your stick. What makes your stick so magical is that yours will be unique there is no right or wrong way to make one and all our adventures are going to be different. A leaf on your stick could be that you climbed that tree so when you come back to Nursery you could tell us all about that adventure or you could put a feather on your stick from a bird which may remind you of the birds singing. You might even find some treasure to tie to your stick. You can use pieces of wool or string to tie things to your stick.
This walk activity allows children to feel free picking up whatever captures their interest. Its creative and imaginative. It focuses the attention on being truly present on looking, hearing and feeling whats around them, and what this means to them. It also develops curiosity in the natural world as well as the communication skills and empathy to retell the journey and listen to others stories when they return to school. Attaching the objects to sticks is also good for their fine motor skills as well.
