Last week in RE, Year 5 started their new RE all around creation. We looked at Genesis, chapter one, and discussed the impression the text gives. We then created art work to represent this, and used our oracy skills to share this with the class.

Year 5 explored their new DT topic, Moving Mechanisms, in their forest school session yesterday. We looked at the links with our previous science units, and wowed Mr Richardson and Mrs O’Doherty with their sticky knowledge! We looked at how we could create our own pneumatic system, and then used this knowledge to help us work in groups to make a box talk! Well done Year 5!

Year 5 visited the Laing Art Gallery today to complete their gold task for their art unit, Tints, Tones and Shades. We created our own landscape artwork thinking about foreground, middle ground, background and how we could create perspective, pulling together all we had learned throughout the unit. We were also able to go around the gallery to draw inspiration from the landscape artwork featured there.
Year 5 had their last swimming lesson of this half term, focusing on back stroke. Sharon tested us to see if we could swim 10m length of the pool doing this stroke.
Year 5 completed an Enrich activity in maths today. We looked at how different sized square grids created different patterns, and then worked out which times tables would create diagonal and vertical lines on the grids.
Year 5 continued their science topic of Forces and Mechanisms this afternoon by looking at pulley systems. We looked at how creating a pulley system created a mechanical advantage, and how the number of pulleys defected the effort needed to lift the load.
This week in swimming, Year 5 were assessed to see if we were able to swim front crawl 10m. Some of us impressed the instructor so much, they might move up to try the big pool!

As part of worship, Year 5 have been looking at the tree of life this week. We thought about what the tree of life tells us about God. For our challenge this week, we had to look at how we could represent this concept through colour.
Year 5 loved watching our class feature on the BBC News this week! The news reporter came into our class as part of a news report on our school campaign to save our church! We then reflected on this after watching and discussed how it made us feel.
