Year 3 and 4 enjoyed our time outside visiting the different stations during prayer space day. We spent time reflecting on different character traits at 7 different stations across the morning!

Following on from looking at vertebrates last week, year 4 moved on to invertebrates, and looked at how we could group them. We worked in groups to figure out how each animal would be categorised.

This week, Mr B has set Year 4 a challenge to become ‘Decimal Detectives’! Following on from our learning in maths around fractions, we are now focusing on decimals. Our first task was to match the correct decimals to the corresponding fractions.

Year 4 continued their work on classification in science last week. We looked at the different ways to categories living things, starting with the plant and animal kingdom. Focusing on the animal kingdom, we then sorted our animals into vertebrates and invertebrates, then further categorising these into birds, fish, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.

Year 4 have been looking at consolidating all of their learning in the current geography topic, Misty Mountain, Winding River. We completed a hunt around the nature garden for questions which we had to work together to answer. Year 4 wowed staff with their knowledge and how well they were able to answer the questions on all they had learned!

What a fantastic jam packed day Year 4 have had at Low Barnes farm yesterday. Linked to our geography learning, we completed a study of the river, identifying key features and collecting data linked to this. As well as undertaking our geography fieldwork, we also had a chance to visit some of the animals on the farm, including bottle feeding the new born lambs!
The children were fantastic ambassadors for St Oswald’s, with farm staff commenting on their wonderful behaviour and engagement!

Year 3 and 4, as part of their worship challenge, ran for resilience. We have been looking at how Jesus was resilient so we tried to exhibit resilience by pushing ourselves and being resilient whilst running laps of our school yard!

Year 4 started to look at classification keys last week as part of our science topic. We were given a range of different animals, and used our classification keys, answering the questions to establish what type of animals they were.

In geography, Year 4 have been looking at mountains in the UK. We looked at the four main mountain ranges in the United Kingdom, focusing on Ben Nevis in the Grampian Mountains. We played a Kahoot quiz to learn more about it, then, working in groups, carried out own research to find more about the climate and wildlife found there. We then collated our findings to present to the rest of the class.

Year 4 began their new DT topic this week, Functional and Fancy Fabrics. We looked at William Morris, and how he was an influential figure. We looked at lots of a William Morris designs, and created fact files about his life and why he was significant.
