For UK Parliament week this week, reception have been thinking about people who help us. So far we have thought about firefighters and police officers. During planning time we have created our own emergency vehicles using different techniques with paint. Some of us built our own vehicles in the construction area.
In guided reading, some of reception have been focusing on initial sounds and blending. We had to crack the code by identifying the initial sounds of each picture and then forming our letters. Once we had each sound we blended the sounds together and read the words.
For worship this week, reception discussed their understanding of kind and unkind. We talked about how we can be a kind friend and our actions. We then listened to the story ‘the lion inside’ and talked about how we can be brave.
On Wednesday morning Reception had a visit from two Type 1 diabetes nurses to listen to a story all about a little boy who has type 1 diabetes and his mammoth. We had 100% and learnt all about how to manage diabetes and how it might make a person feeling, using words such as tired, sad, angry and poorly. We then coloured our own mammoth in.

This week in maths Reception have been finding 4&5. We used multi-link cubes to make and represent 4&5 different ways.
Reception but their oracy skills to the test in maths yesterday. We applied our listening skills and 100% focus to sit back to back and represent numbers to 5 using dots. We used positional language to support our partner. We also compared the size of our dots using words such as ‘small’, ‘medium’ and ‘big’. Reception were so engaged that we continued this activity independently during our planning time.
Reception have started their new topic “Marvellous Machines”
We made a strawberry and banana smoothie, talking about how blenders can help us!
Reception have been learning about circles and triangles this week. Some of us used 3D shapes to print 2D faces into playdough and talked about what we noticed. Others went on a walk outdoors to spot shapes in the environment.
Reception have started to think about Remembrance Day. We have created our own poppies using paint and hand prints. We discussed why we wear poppies and what they represent.
To celebrate Bonfire Night, reception have created their own firework displays using chalk. We listened to music and created movements. We talked about the colours, noises and how to stay safe around fireworks and bonfires
