Year 2 and Year 4 had the best time celebrating the ‘international day of peace’ during prayer space day. We thought about peace in many different ways, alongside reflecting on what makes us feel the most at peace. We ended our session by ‘being still’ in the nature garden. Thanks to Mr Richardson and Mrs O’Doherty for planning and prepping our session!
Year 2 loved their art lesson, last week! They used malleable materials to create different patterns and textures with paint. They loved creating the different textures by putting holes in their materials and thought about how they could overlap the paints to create secondary colours.
Year 2 were super tired after their National Fitness Day challenge! Miss Marley showed us how to warm up and then challenged us to run 1 mile… 9 laps around the yard! Afterwards, we discussed what exercise does to our bodies and why it’s important.
Yesterday morning, Year 1 and 2 worked together on our #saveourchurch campaign. As agents of change, we decided to create a petition on change.org discussing the issue with our church. In the weeks to come we will be asking our local community to sign our petition and support us in saving St. Oswald’s Church!
Year 2 loved learning about democracy today and were able to discuss why having a vote is really important. They then wrote out their manifestos and delivered them to the class explaining why they would like to be a school council member. Finally, we were able to go into our very own Ozzie polling station (all thanks to Mrs Whittle and Miss Dixon) and vote for our class councillors!
Last week, Year 2 had a brilliant first forest school with Mrs O’Doherty. They continued their Habitats topic from Science and were identifying living and non-living things. The class blew Mrs O’Doherty’s socks off with their knowledge!
Across the past 2 weeks, Year 2 have begun their dance topic in PE. Linked to our ‘rock n roll’ genre in Music, we have been learning a dance topic Elvis’ Hound Dog. Year 2 have been fantastically copying Elvis’ iconic move… his shaky legs, and are even better at choreographing their own dances!
Year 1 have had an amazing day programming, using Scratch Jr. First of all, children learnt to join blocks to build a program and add multiple sprites. Then they wrote their own algorithms for multiple sprites on a suitable background, before using these algorithms to write a program in Scratch Jr. Children loved seeing their plans brought to life! Amazing work Year 1!
Well what a fabulous games morning Year 1 had today! The children absolutely loved working together to read instructions and share their games with each other. Mrs Wells and Mrs Hope were so impressed with their attitudes and how they shared and played so maturely. Great job Year 1!
